Shopping

To facilitate shopping, the covered bazaar was introduced in Paris in 1820, and in the following decade such bazaars could be found in Madrid and other Spanish cities. The bazaars offered ladies the oportunity to leave their homes to shop or merely admire the jewellery, textiles, an innumerable accesories on display under the canopies.

The clothes worn on such excursions were usually simple. closed to the neck, in either dark colours or the fashionable check. Ladies also wore hats or bonnets, and carried gloves and parasols. In winter they wore three-quarter length coats, cloaks and hooded capes.
