Ca. 1580-1600

Fragment of crushed velvet in red silk. The decoration of the horizontal strips is based on overlapping arcades with various archivolts, the first with cresting rhomboids between the first and second, and the third with an internal sawtooth pattern. The fleur-de-lis is framed within the arch.

This type of velvet with small, repetitive motifs, positions us in the Renaissance period at the end of the 16th century. The orientalist details of the decoration remind us of Venice, because of the European and Oriental influences.
