Jewellery and Accessories

The jewellery collection comprises one of the Museo’s most outstanding trademarks. Although the majority of the pieces included in it are linked to traditional aspects of Spanish culture, there is also room for representative pieces of the European trends from the last two centuries. The women’s adornments are the unquestionable protagonists: earrings, necklaces, pendants, rings and bracelets. Men’s jewellery is represented by watch chains, shoe buckles, rings, etc. Moreover, all the groups mentioned also share a wealth of cultural significances. They constitute an excellent testimony of the technical evolution and the formal innovation, the deep-rooted customs and the influence of fashion trends and, above all, of man’s attitude to his own adornment.

In addition, the Museo also houses an extraordinary collection of fashion accessories. The hats from the 19th and early 20th centuries stand out; the lace parasols; the gloves that go from the 17th century to the present day; and the footwear is worthy of particular mention, most especially the women’s 18th century shoes and slippers. Both collections add up to a total of 9000 pieces.
