Foundation activities

The Museo Sorolla has been temporarily closed since 1 October 2024 in order to complete its expansion and remodelling project. You can find more information on that project here Nueva ventana. The reopening is scheduled for the start of 2026 and until that time the Fundación Museo Sorolla will continue to collaborate with the museum in the habitual manner.

The main fields of work of the Foundation are:

Programme of temporary exhibitions

Due to these exhibitions, visitor numbers to the Museo Sorolla increased to nearly 345,000 in 2023 and to 245,000 in 2024 (until 1 October 2024) in conjunction with the celebration of the Sorolla Centennial. The temporary exhibitions are one of the museum’s principal attractions and also mean that the artist’s work can be seen by many more people outside the Museo Sorolla itself.

Educational programme

While the museum is closed the Fundación will be continuing with its aim of disseminating the life and work of Joaquín Sorolla to schoolchildren through the programme “Sorolla at your School” Nueva ventana, in which educators will be visiting classrooms and leading enjoyable and informative activities focused on the artist and his work.

Quarterly drawing and painting courses are also offered for students who wish to discover the painter's technique, improve their own skills, deepen their knowledge of pictorial language and develop their own personal artistic project.

Research programme

The Foundation carries out important research work at the Museum by financing the cataloguing and reorganization of collections. Since 2001, thanks to this collaboration, the collections of old photographs, drawings by Sorolla and the author's correspondence have been catalogued. The Foundation also supports the museum's publication program, as well as activities such as conferences and scientific seminars.
