The furniture collection at the Museo Sorolla comprises the pieces of furniture which existed and were used in the house during the artist’s lifetime. Most of these objects remain in their original location and some are depicted in paintings that Sorolla made of his own home.

This is an extensive and eclectic group which encompasses different typologies and styles of furniture: items from the 17th and 18th centuries; vernacular furniture from different regions of Spain made between the 18th and 19th centuries; 19th-century furniture in the Historicist style based on medieval, Renaissance and Baroque models; 19th-century Spanish furniture of different styles (Fernandine, Isabelline) which interprets French furniture; furniture from Sorolla’s own day, such as the dining table made for the artist by the sculptor José Capúz; and more avant-garde designs such as the set of ceiling lights in the drawing room, the room adjoining the dining room and the dining room, which are by the American designer Tiffany and were made in New York.

A wide range of typologies is represented: writing desks, waste paper baskets, tables of different types and function, chairs, benches, armchairs, sofas, chests, trunks, caskets, glass-front display cabinets, console tables, commodes and numerous easels for painting. Also striking is the original bed in the Arabic-Oriental style, an object typical of late 19th- and early 20th-century interior design, made with a canopy and cover of printed fabric and a small incorporated bookcase. Sorolla used this bed for relaxing in his studio when taking a rest from work.

The collection comprises 184 pieces, which are all catalogued and accessible online.
