At present, the National Museum of Roman Art consists of two buildings: the main facility, known as the Moneo Building, and the Church of Santa Clara. The Moneo Building is where the permanent exhibition of Roman artefacts is housed, along with the central offices and other basic services of the Institution. By contrast, the Church of Santa Clara is the old religious building that housed the Museum from its inception in the 19th century until the construction and opening of the Moneo Building. Following this, it became home to a temporary exhibition of the collections from the Visigothic, medieval and modern periods.
