This generic name encompasses a large number of objects, many of which were related to everyday life in Roman Mérida, and among which we find different types made from a wide variety of materials.
Ceramics is numerically dominant, with vessels, tableware and lamps being the main products. Glass, imported or produced in Mérida itself, was mainly used for vessels, and therefore took shapes very similar to those found in ceramics. The bronze items also stand out for their richness and ornamentation. Although rougher, iron encompassed the widest range of functions imaginable. Bone, which was easy to work with, also provides a good representation of the more everyday side of life in antiquity. Finally, certain types of stone, particularly marble, were used to make all kinds of furniture and even luxury vessels.
