Social responsibility

The museum is the cultural institution par excellence of the 21st century. From this position, we must strive not to be thought of as something elitist, but as a museum for everyone, as a welcoming place. This requires the creation of more open spaces that answer to the public's concerns and acknowledge their questions.

Furthermore, it must contribute to the reduction of energy and environmental costs without compromising social and cultural sustainability.

+ Social Museums Plan (Plan Museos + Sociales)

Along with the other fifteen museums of the Directorate General of Cultural Heritage and Fine Arts, as well as others managed by the State Secretariat for Culture, the Museum forms part of the plan + Social Museums (Museos + Sociales)

This plan is promoted by the Ministry of Culture with the aim of ensuring that museum institutions adapt to the social realities of the current context, with the aim of being accessible and responding to the needs of all citizens, especially those groups who have greater difficulties in visiting or who are at risk of social exclusion.

The aim is also to raise the profile of the social cohesion we need and to make the museum an element of integration and mutual knowledge, a space for sharing reflections and experiences, new ideas and new practices, aimed at promoting coexistence and respect and responding to social, economic and cultural changes. The purpose of + Social Museums (Museos + Sociales) is to broaden this sphere of action, bringing in other museums and people who are committed to the development of socially responsible institutions.
