Tipos de yacimientos

Most underwater archaeological sites owe their origin to various types of disasters: shipwrecks, wars, changes in sea level, earthquakes, etc. However, others can be associated with places of rituals related with the sea, or may even have been deliberately built on or under the water.

Although most of these sites are under the sea, there are also remains of human activity in lakes, rivers, wells, canals, reservoirs, dikes and dams. Boats and structures relating to nautical activities, such as piers, lighthouses and arsenals, are also found on land.
