The First International Congress “The Spanish Armada of 1588 and the English Counter Armada of 1589. Naval conflict between Spain and England: 1580-1607” took place in the National Museum of Underwater Archaeology (Cartagena) from the 23rd to the 26 of April.
The congress undertook a review of the interdisciplinary research carried out over the last 30 years on the naval conflict between Spain and England from 1580 to 1607, with particular reference to the Spanish Armada of 1588 and the English Counter Armada of 1589. While the conflict between England and Spain had ended by 1604 it wasn’t until the flight of the Earl’s from Ireland in 1607 that the threat of further Spanish involvement in English affairs on Irish soil was ended.
At the same time, the Congress aimed to encourage the promotion of new research and researchers in the subjects under discussion.Salto de línea
