Roman wine amphora with stamps

The Punta de Algas wreck is a Roman ship from the 1st century BCE which carried a cargo of amphorae with the unusual feature of having been stamped twice.Salto de línea One of the stamps, located on the lip in a rectangular cartouche, consists of a name from the servant class.Salto de línea The second stamp, in this case illegible, would probably have shown an oval cartouche with the figure of a winged Victory, like most of the amphorae found in this wreck.Salto de línea These stamps have been identified as the evidence of the production structure of the amphorae or of their content, probably indicating different workers in the same pottery.Salto de línea
