Amulet

From the wreck at Las Amoladeras (Cartagena) came this golden amulet, from the 1st century BCE, representing the male and female genitals, in a pairing which was reputed to work very well against witchcraft and the evil eye, especially the type called fascinum. The effect would be intensified by the material itself: gold was believed to have protective powers.
