Red-glazed dish

These red ceramic dishes were one of the main forms of Phoenician ceramics in the western Mediterranean. They were used for tableware, and were considered luxury elements by some cultures due to their red slip and shine, imitating metallic shapes. With a flat or even retracted base, sometimes slightly marked, the body of the ceramic is very open with a conical profile or in a curved line. The deep part, i.e. the dish itself, is almost always surrounded by a wide border, which in most cases is clearly marked. These can be horizontal or curved and are of decisive importance for determining the shape.
