Fragment of a botijo or water bottle, possibly from Mexico, corresponding to a typical model made in the Puebla workshops in the 18th century.Salto de línea The part which is preserved, mainly the upper third of the body with the lip, spout and handle, depicts a type of bat, perhaps a pre-Columbian deity, often found in these pieces. Near the shoulder the decoration of applied clay rope-like bands and transversal incisions can still be seen.Salto de línea A piece like this, from such a distant point of origin, underlines the importance of the city of Cartagena as a port and trading centre.
