The collections of the National Museum of Anthropology include samples of the material culture of different peoples from Africa, America, Asia, Europe and Oceania, especially as they relate to Spanish history. The Museum also has an outstanding collection of physical anthropology, as well as oil paintings, watercolours, engravings, lithographs and photographs related to anthropology.

The catalogue, which provides access to information and graphic documentation regarding approximately 7,940 artefacts, offers a window onto a small part of the extensive collection of the National Museum of Anthropology. The museum intends to expand the collections visible online by gradually adding notable pieces from the rest of its collections. The aim is to provide the public with an overview of the cultures of the different peoples, and also to establish the cultural similarities and differences that highlight their richness and diversity. The aim is to promote intercultural understanding and tolerance towards other peoples and cultures.

DOMUS is an integrated documentation and museum management system developed by the Ministry of Culture (Department for State Museums and Department for Technologies and Information Systems). It is a software application for the cataloguing and management of cultural property held by museums.

Catalogued information and digital images of the Museum's collections are displayed to the public via this website and are already part of the Digital Network of Collections of Spanish Museums.
