Researchers
The Altamira National Museum and Research Centre makes available to researchers information and on-site access to its collections, archives, and specialised library.
The museum is open to researchers for consultation of materials and facility access from Monday–Friday from 9:30 to 14:30.
- Requests to review the archaeological resources should be directed to the museum’s research department: investigacion.maltamira@cultura.gob.es
- Requestions to review documentary resources should be directed to the museum’s documentation department: documentacion.maltamira@cultura.gob.es
- Requests to review bibliographical resources should be directed to the museum’s library.
Process and Documentation
In order to consult archaeological and/or documentary resources of the Museum of Altamira, researchers must submit the following:
- Signed request/research regulations form
. - Corresponding authorisation for collections on loan from other institutions. The Altamira National Museum and Research Centre will not make such collections available without the express authorisation of the controlling institution. Authorisations must detail the specific conditions of the research.
On receipt of this documentation, the museum will be in touch with the researcher to schedule the visit. So that the request may be properly processed, we recommend that it be sent to us at least ten working days before the anticipated date of the visit.
Access to the museum’s resources is provided with the understanding that such access will not interfere with the normal functioning of services for the visiting public and that resources will be handled appropriately so as to ensure the conservation of cultural assets. Access will be subject to strict compliance with research regulations.
