Armchair with seat and back made from cordoba leathers with geometric decorations. The chair's front stretcher has a geometric fretwork. This type of seat, known as "friar's chair" since the 19th century, were previously known as "chair with arms".

The typology comes from 16th century Italy, and was soon found in the Iberian Peninsula in the 16th and 17th centuries. Specifically, this armchair appears to be from the beginning of the 17th century.

The name of "friar's chair", as said, comes from the end of the 19th and beginning of 20th century, referring to the historicist armchairs being constructed at the time, imitating the Renaissance and Baroque armchairs.
