White jug with blue decorations from Talavera de la Reina. This jug is an example of the baroque blue heraldic series prolific during the 18th century. Since the 16th century, convents start to request a wide variety of products to Talavera's potters, some of them for daily use, and others with a religiuos-symbolic character. They have decorative elements linking them to religious settings, like the crest of the order, this adds a documental value to the surviving pieces.

In this case above the crest of the Dominic order it can be read "NOVIZo DE AJOFRÍN", which means it belonged to the Novitiate of Ajofrin (Toledo). The acanthus leaves around the crest, with wavy profile in the exterior, are common in ceramic examples from the last third of the 18th century.
