Market Programme: New Spanish Shorts @ CF21 (International Competition)
Spain is very present in this year’s International Competition of Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival with no less than four excellent proposals going from fiction to documentary and animation. Take a look at Javier Marco’s confrontational work ‘A la cara’; enjoy Eloy Domínguez Serén’s portrait of one of the oldest carnival celebration traditions in ‘Os Corpos’; experience the loneliness of life in the suburbs in ‘La hoguera’ by Carlos Saiz; and travel to the 1940s in Havana with the animated documentary ‘Guillermina’ by Aida Esther Bueno Sarduy. In Ourense, one of the oldest forms of carnival is celebrated. The unique festivities, lit by torches and accompanied by the sound of drums, are filmed in an enveloping way: it is as if the spectator himself were immersed in an ancient pagan ritual.

Guillermina

Based on a true story, 'Guillermina' is a film that reconstructs the memories of the trace left in a 9-year-old child, the son of a well-to-do family in Havana in the 1940s, his wet-nurse, a black woman named Guillermina.

Between the documentary and the fiction, The Bonfire is a portrait about life in the neighborhood and its people. It tells the family situation of Lionel, a close friend of the director and who, in one way or another, seems destined for loneliness.
