Awards Announced by the Ministry through the Office for the Promotion of Books, Reading and Literature

The purpose of the awards called and granted each year by the Ministry through the Office for the Promotion of Spanish Books, Reading and Literature is to encourage literary creation through public recognition of the authors whose works have been especially outstanding in the view of a panel of experts in each category. Likewise, work in favour of promoting culture by certain entities and professionals is also recognised.

The linguistic and cultural diversity that characterises Spanish society, the wide variety and richness of literature in Spanish, Catalan, Galician, Valencian and Basque is supported by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport in all expressions related to books. This is reflected in the composition of the panels of experts, which include a representative from each of the institutions that oversee the official languages of Spain.

These panels act, as experts and institutional representatives, with complete independence, rigour and impartiality, which contributes to the prestige of the Awards, whose purpose is to serve as an incentive to young authors, to contribute to the consolidation of authors with a major work in progress and to distinguish the career of a lifetime dedicated to creation in any of its facets.
