Set in 1886 America, two Irish siblings, 9-year-old Mary and 12-year-old Tom, arrive on an ocean liner to the hustle and bustle of New York City. They are there to meet their Uncle Niall and secure their inheritance. But when Uncle Niall fails to meet them, they decide to stow away on the Transcontinental Railroad in the hopes of making it to California to find him.

Jasmine is 8 years old and a musical virtuoso. After the death of her parents, she experiences a rollercoaster of emotions. She tries to navigate her sadness, rage and fear, she also starts to notice that something strange is happening to music. As she stares at a mysterious sheet music in wonder, Jasmine is sucked up by a tuba and transported to Soundland, a secret, musical paradise.
Daniela has just moved into an old apartment and is ready to make it her new home. As the months go by, Daniela notices that something strange is happening: her clothes have cuts and holes in particular shapes.
