The 2010 Jacobean Year was very significant because it was the end of a particularly important cycle owing to the large number of pilgrims who took the Camino de Santiago.

The Consejo Jacobeo commemorated this event for the first time with a combined programme of cultural activities covering the length of the Camino de Santiago. The Spanish and regional governments involved added their efforts to the benefit of this common cultural asset. This cooperation and the work carried out starting in 2006 culminated in 2010 with a very full programme, as can be seen in the Combined Report on the 2010 Jacobean Year Activities.

As on previous occasions, the 2010 Jacobean Year was considered an event of exceptional public interest in terms of applying tax benefits. This allowed private sector participation in it to be increased, resulting in greater publicity for the event.
