Female voices. 900 years in the documents of the Archive of the Crown of Aragon

December 2022 marked the centenary of the incorporation into the staff of the Archive of the Crown of Aragon of Áurea Javierre, its first female archivist. This exhibition commemorates it following the interest of the Ministry of Culture, the General Subdirectorate of the State Archives and its dependent centres, to disseminate the feminine documentary and scientific heritage. The State Archives also have developed a project to visualize women researchers between 1900 and 1970, with the aim of putting the focus on female science during the 20th.

The exhibition brings together almost sixty documents from the collections of the Archive of the Crown of Aragon relating to all types of women, in all periods and circumstances. There are female voices from the 11th century and the 19th century. Religious women, workers, witches, professionals and owners. Voices of prosecuted or imprisoned women and voices of sick princesses. Of women at risk of death due to childbirth and of others who remember their female friends in their wills.

The exhibition is complemented by a cycle of academic sessions and another of concerts, parallel to its exposition.
