On the occasion of the 725th anniversary of the death of the monarch Pedro III of Aragon, I of Valencia, I of Sicily and II of Barcelona, in Vilafranca del Penedès, the Archivo de la Corona de Aragón organized an exhibition on his personal and political career.
Peter the Great was a king who lived at a time of defeat of the political model that had worked so far in Europe, pyramidal, headed in a dual way by the emperor and the pope, and in which a horizontal scheme began to be drawn, in which the different kingdoms of the moment fight fiercely to obtain a good starting position. In this sense, the figure of this king, with a brief reign, will be marked forever by the conquest of Sicily, the papal excommunication, the war with France and the incarnation of courtly and chivalrous virtues.
